Margaret and Alfred Choyce Scholarship

Margaret and Alfred Choyce were a part of upper Kittitas County when it was a thriving coal mining area that attracted immigrants from Great Britain and Europe to supply the labor force for the coal industry.

Their daughter, Beverly Choyce Stewart, established the Margaret and Alfred Choyce Memorial Scholarship through the Church of the Resurrection, Roslyn. Her intent is to honor her parent's memory, and indirectly, to honor the memory of all the early settlers of the area. The scholarship in the amount of $1000.00 is given annually to an applicant who has successfully completed high school and has specific plans for the following fall. The applicant’s letter describes how they meet the criteria, why s/he is deserving of the award, and their future plans.

Arlene Shuman Memorial Scholarship

The Arlene Shuman Memorial Scholarship is dedicated to those graduating from Swiftwater  Learning Center, a Big Picture Learning program that implements the belief that all students can learn, Ms Shuman was passionate about determining the most effective learning style and circumstances for each student at the same time realizing that a separate reward system was needed for these students. The $500.00 scholarship provides assistance to an applicant who meets the criteria and submits an application describing their academic work, financial situation, and future plans.
