We’re In This Together

We are a lay-led congregation. Lay people (non-ordained members of the church) assume significant roles and responsibilities within the church structure. We covenant to discern God’s call together so that decisions reflect our mission while using spirit-led insight and practical wisdom from across the congregation. Ministry teams are charged with specific areas of parish life and are empowered to make the day-to-day decisions. Based on our varied God-given and acquired skills, we come together as one, embodying servant leadership, inspired by Christ's example of humility and service.

The Episcopal Hierarchy

  • How the Church is Structured

The Episcopal Church is structured on a three-tiered system: national, diocesan, and local (parish). At the national level, the General Convention (composed of the House of Bishops and the House of Deputies) meets every three years to address major issues. Dioceses, led by a diocesan bishop, are the middle level, and local parishes, overseen by a rector, are the smallest units. At the Church of the Resurrection, Roslyn, the parish is led by the Bishop’s Warden and the Bishop of the Spokane Diocese serves as priest for our church.

  • Sean Rowe

Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church

The national level is overseen by a General Convention held every three years, where delegates from all dioceses, along with the House of Bishops, gather to make decisions. The Presiding Bishop: Sean Rowe, is the chief pastor and primate of the Episcopal Church and is elected by the House of Bishops.

  • Gretchen Rehberg

    Diocese Bishop of Spokane

The Diocesan Bishop: Gretchen Rehberg, is the head of the Diocese of Spokane of which we are a part. She is responsible for overseeing parishes and ordaining clergy. Her role includes serving as the priest for several parishes in the diocese without clergy.

  • Kate Rogers

    Bishop’s Warden

Bishop’s Warden: The Bishop’s Warden fills the leadership role in the absence of clergy by providing leadership so that the Bishop's Committee (BC) can identify the mission, vision, and goals of the congregation; make and implement plans; assess programs; and celebrate achievements.
