Bishop’s Committee Covenant
2025 Bishop's Committee Covenant
Treating each other with respect and loving each other by:
Creating an atmosphere in which each member has the opportunity to express themselves (mutual invitation, talking stick)
Listening deeply to one another, the congregation, and the community beyond the church walls (active listening)
Communicating directly using "I" statements
Working towards "oneness" i.e., speaking and acting in such a way as to build up and support one another
Being open to change while discerning God's call for the congregation and building up the body of Christ
Remaining open to new and creative ways to build the life and mission of our faith community
Taking a prayer break as needed and as requested by any member
BC Meetings will be focused and productive by:
Limiting BC meeting to 2 hours in duration by being time-sensitive during discussions at meeting and taking a time check mid-way through the meeting.
Utilizing the current Diocesan recommended agenda format
Including scripture, prayer and formation in the beginning and a check-in and prayer prior to adjournment
Being accountable by being on time, coming prepared by reading and reflecting on the attached material pertinent to the agenda items
Submitting ministry/committee reports in a timely manner (1 week prior to meeting)
Moving non-critical issues to the following month if necessary.
Maintaining strict confidentiality of issues discussed in closed, executive session.
Being accountable through personal responsibility and commitment to the process
Prioritizing agenda items
Having cell phones available for urgent use only
We will be an example to the congregation by:
Putting "Vision" items in the front of the agenda, finance toward the end
Keeping stewardship as a focus year round
Warmly welcoming all parishioners to BC meetings
Being transparent about the world of the BC through regular communication
